Results-Driven Brand & Creative Marketing Leader

About

Oh, hello!

I’m Alyson Coutts
(rhymes with boots).

I am a Brooklyn-based brand design leader who loves making lists, Alice in Wonderland, and going to too many concerts. I have over 15 years experience helping brands put their best creative marketing foot forward.

Then

After growing up in Connecticut, I left the great Nutmeg state for the cold winters of Troy, New York to attend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where I majored in Electronic Media, Arts and Communication. After graduating, I worked as a designer for a high-end bicycle manufacturer in Saratoga Springs, a healthcare consulting company in Washington, DC, and an ergonomic office furniture company in Manhattan. While all great early career jobs, it wasn’t until 2007 that I finally found my groove. I spent almost 5 years working at Seamless (then SeamlessWeb, now part of Grubhub) as the sole designer on their marketing team. I designed everything from plastic bags to emails to stickers to national out-of-home campaigns to rain ponchos for delivery people and everything else in between. We went from a small New York-based startup to what is now the nation's leading online and mobile food-ordering and delivery marketplace.

Once I had enough of photos of food and ordering delivery from my couch, I decided it was time to change gears and make the switch from in-house to agency life. Since I had spent a huge part of my time at Seamless working with our email marketing team, it made sense for me to go 100% into email. In 2012, I joined the award-winning creative services team at Yesmail (now Data Axle) as the team lead for their East Coast and European clients. I led a team of designers and copywriters that created templates, email campaigns, and preference centers for a multitude of clients. Two years later, I joined the team at StrongView (now Selligent Marketing Cloud) in a similar role. In both positions, I was able to work directly with many different types of companies.

In 2020, I made the switch back to the startup world as the Senior Design Manager at Medly Pharmacy. In this role, I managed a team of brand designers and oversaw all marketing and sales collateral, content marketing design, retail, e-commerce, packaging, and other Medly-branded touchpoints across various channels and verticals.

After a year in this position, I was promoted to Head of Brand Design, reporting directly to the CMO. In this role, I not only managed the team but also took on the responsibility of creative direction, strategy, and execution of the Medly brand. My main objective was to enable, empower, and mentor the team to create outstanding work.

Now

Unfortunately, Medly filed for bankruptcy in late 2022, and as of February 2023, the company has ceased operations completely. After taking some time to rest and reset, I am now looking for my next big opportunity! I am open to any design leadership position, either remote or in New York City.
